Overview

Carbon Counter is a compliance tool which provides step-by-step guidance through the CRC regulations, helping to ensure that your organisation meets its compliance obligations.

Our easy-to-use service offers you a simple and safe data collection and storage solution which enables you to establish whether you are required to register for the scheme or provide an information disclosure. Carbon Counter will also generate a comprehensive report on the precise data that you need to report to the Environment Agency.

Here is a handy guide to Carbon Counter's current features and benefits.

High temperatures will lead to drier climates and even developed countries like the UK and America could be affected by droughts within 20 years.

Carbon Counter - features at a glance

Record and maintain your organisation structure in an easy-to-use interactive tool. You can now zoom in and out of your chart using the new zoom slider, plus we have also rationalised the menus making it easier for you to find what you need to complete your compliance.

Data is stored in one place in a CRC-ready form. This provides the basis of the evidence pack and we will store it for as long as necessary for audit purposes.

Screenshot 3

Adding subsidiaries with explanatory guidance. We will guide you step-by-step through the entire process.

Screenshot 4

Upload and assign meters to different parts of your organisation. You can now add multiple suppliers to meters which is useful where your supplier changes during the year.

Screenshot 5

The Backup/Restore facility provides you with peace of mind. When you are about to make significant changes to your data, Carbon Counter now allows you to take a named backup which you can restore if you are unhappy with the changes that you make.

Carbon Counter deals with transport, domestic, accommodation, onward supply, self-supply and CCA exemptions. Exemptions are specified against a site and can be allocated either against one or more meters on the site or as an estimated or 'measured otherwise' consumption figure. Exempt consumption is subtracted from the total qualifying consumption at every level within the organisation, including SGUs

The Meter and Site Chart displays an organisation's structure, meters, sites, exemptions, consumption and emissions in an easy to use tabular format. In this view you can assign your imported meters with a simple drag and drop functionality.

Screenshot 8

Carbon Counter already allows you to construct your organisational chart, assign meters and sites and define exemptions. All of these elements make up important elements of your evidence pack. We are pleased to announce that we have now extended this functionality to include dated notes which are free text fields that can be attached to an organisation, site, meter or exemption. Within the dated notes you can add references and links to external systems, enabling you to have a single storage solution for all your compliance needs. Carbon Counter now includes the ability for users to upload and view up to 1GB of documents, such as statements and bills from energy suppliers. These can be attributed to an organisation, site, meter or exemption and are clearly sign-posted in the meters and sites chart for ease of location. This new functionality provides a single storage solution for ease of auditing and allows you to focus on completing other aspects of your evidence pack.

Check your progress and find out where you are in the CRC timeline and whether you need to participate in the scheme. Carbon Counter takes you through the steps required to record your 2008 Qualification Year data. When you are ready Carbon Counter will take a 'snapshot' of the data and create a new copy ready to record structure changes since 2008 - the '2010 Registration Changes' stage. Both copies of the data will remain viewable and editable and are visible as two tabs on all the Carbon Counter tools.

Screenshot 10

Carbon Counter allows you to map out significant changes to your organisation which have occurred since the end of 2008. Once you have recorded your 2010 organisation structure and updated any meters and sites, Carbon Counter will compare the 2008 and 2010 charts to determine where there have been changes. Examples of changes include: deletion/addition of subsidiaries and where a subsidiary has been bought and sold between 2008 and 2010.

Carbon Counter accurately calculates your qualifying electricity consumption. The status bar on the status page will indicate whether you are required to register for the scheme or provide an information disclosure.

Screenshot 12

Carbon Counter generates a data checks report which confirms missing supplier details, incomplete estimation data on meters and meter IDs.

Screenshot 13

Carbon Counter generates a comprehensive report on the precise data that you need to report to the Environment Agency for Registration or Information Disclosure. The report takes you point by point through the responses that you need to give and the data you need to enter. Carbon Counter also generates the file containing a list of half-hourly meters that you need to upload to the CRC Registry.

Screenshot 14

We are pleased to announce that we have been working with SystemsLink, an M&T software provider to allow you to import your SystemsLink portfolio data directly into Carbon Counter in one easy upload. Carbon Counter recognises the file type and links to organisation names stated and assigns the appropriate consumption. This improved functionality ensures that all data imported has been logged and checked for completeness with partial records immediately flagged with consumption set at ‘0’, giving you the peace of mind that the registration information you supply is accurate.

Screenshot 15

An important part of the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme and the assessment of compliance is the audit process by an Environment Agency administrator to ensure the scheme is transparent and fair. We know that the job of ensuring compliance is complex and may fall to more than one person within your organisation. As such, Carbon Counter now includes audit trail functionality allowing you to easily track any amendments made to individual meters before and after snapshots are taken with user details clearly stated and date/time stamped.
